I just got back from a wonderful holiday visiting Amsterdam! Time filled with friends, family, and celebrating my sisters birthday…this trip was nothing short of amazing. Having been to Amsterdam when I was 15, I remember it vividly as one of my favorite cities. My opinion still stands true to this day.
Amsterdams tranquility, essence for simplicity, and romanticism is evident in the endless canals & bicycles encircling the city boarders. Small nooks in the city that can elicit you to believe you are in the most rural points in the countryside. I adore it here. Mixing my love for city life and country cozy life.
If you look in the right spots, you can see that they truly have built a beautiful community in the city.
When in Europe, this city is a must visit! Amsterdam has a variety of offerings for the food, coffee, and history lover.
I hope you find this guide helpful in your next trip to Amsterdam!
COFFEE

Dak Coffee Roasters
The place that was a non-negotiable for me. I found Dak through a local coffee shop here in LA. The quality and attention to detail to their beans is unmatched. Their showroom has a large selection of beans to try Adjacent to their showroom, is a tasting room where you can sit and taste a variety of hand selected beans. This is a place for a coffee nerd like myself who enjoys the complexity of coffee.

Haku Coffee Roasters
Another great spot that roasts their own beans. I was very impressed with the coffee that I had. My sister also had their matcha and said it was exceptional! A great spot with a very minimalistic setting.

Toki
A beautiful spot in an adorable neighborhood. As the coffee was good, the vibes and interior were unmatched. A great place to sit outside and people watch or be indoors and read a book!
Lot61
Out of all of the places that I went to this was my least favorite but still deserves an honorable mention on this guide. Their coffee was okay, but they are a very well known cafe with multiple locations. It is worth a try to check out their other locations if you are in the area!
Places I wanted to go, but didn’t get a chance to:
Uncommon
Rum Baba
Luuk’s
RESTAURANTS

The Cottage
A cozy cafe that feels like you have stepped back in time. We came here twice and both times did not disappoint. Serving the ultimate comfort food and wonderful vibes. I can’t recommend this place enough, especially to explore another part of Amsterdam away from the hustle!

Nnea Pizza
The most incredible pizza with a variety of offerings. I will say you either need a reservation or show up right when they open to get a spot. It is a busy place! We got the Margherita, Oro di Buffalo (the yellow tomato sauce is divine), and the Terra. They serve their pizza traditionally with scissors to cut it yourself. Could not recommend this place more!

Zero Zero
I came here twice it was so amazing! The simplest focaccia sandwiches with flavors that explode in your mouth. This is another place that there will most likely be a line as well, but very much worth the wait. I had the picante and the san daniele. Again, both incredibly good and worth a try!

Kikkie van de Prinsensluis - burger
A beautiful cafe/bar style establishment with indoor, outdoor seating along the canal. You wouldn’t think they sell the best hamburger in Amsterdam, but they do. Dinner isn’t served until 18.30, but there are incredible starters and drinks to enjoy before then. Try the burger, I promise you will love it!

Frens Haringhandel Amsterdam - Fried Fish
Very good Fish ’n’ Chips - without the chips - located in central Amsterdam. It’s a shack located in the center of a very busy square at the heart of the city. It is a tourist trap, definitely, yet the flavor is unmatched. The sauce is a sweeter version of traditional horseradish aioli. The flavor compliments the fish incredibly well. I highly recommend if you are in the area!

Flo’s Deli - Bagels
A classic New York bagel in Amsterdam. Located on the West Side, this is a fantastic spot if you are in the mood for a bagel. We did get there a bit later and managed to get the last 3 bagels they had for the day. They were good, albeit, I know they have other options as well. This is a spot I would get to early as well!
DESSERT
I was on the HUNT for good cinnamon scrolls in Amsterdam, only because I knew they had so many places that offered them! The top three were Theo only ones I managed to go too. My favorite out of them was definitely Bakkerij Mas!

Oslo - Cinnamon Buns

BunBun - Cinnamon Buns

Bakkerij Mas - Cinnamon Scroll
Apple Pie is a must and a staple when in Amsterdam. Both spots were amazing, but we had concluded that Winkel 43 had a thicker crust with more flavor while Het Papeneiland had a thinner crust with a more flavorful apple filling. Still, both are worth a try!

Winkel 43 - Apple Pie

Het Papeneiland - Apple Pie
A place we randomly stumbled upon with a massive line wrapped around the building. They only serve one thing…chocolate cookies with a white chocolate filling. To my surprise, they were incredible and worth the wait. I recommend if you are in the mood or in the area!

Van Stapele Koekmakerij - Chocolate cookies
Gelato shops that make you feel like you are walking the Spanish steps in Rome with gelato in your hand. This gelato is so good that it will take you back to Italy. It’s the real deal. I got the creme and pistachio at Massimo. Divine!! Highly recommend both of these stops on a hot summers day!

Massimo Gelato
Miuz Gelato
MUSEUMS

Each of these museums has a different them and message that they are portraying. While I believe that the National Holocaust Museum and Anne Frank House are important moments in history that need to be honored and seen…the Rembrandt and Rijksmuseum have incredible artworks displayed. It feels like stepping back in time! No matter what you are feeling that day, you can’t go wrong with any ONE of these museums!
Rijksmuseum
National Holocaust Museum
Rembrandt House Museum
Anne Frank House
